Otillia Makomo -Harare -The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Advocate F.T. Mhona ,conducted an on-site inspection of the Mabvuku Interchange and the Mutare Road/Harare Drive Interchange in Msasa to assess the progress of construction works.
The tour comes as Government ramps up efforts to modernize Harare’s road network and ease traffic bottlenecks in the eastern part of the capital.
At the Mabvuku Interchange, Minister Mhona noted a key milestone with the ongoing installation of bridge beams, signaling that structural works are now well underway.
Addressing journalists during the tour, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at both sites. He emphasized the importance of the Mabvuku project in boosting regional trade and connectivity, particularly through its connection to the Beira Corridor — Zimbabwe’s vital link to the Port of Beira in Mozambique.
“The Mabvuku Interchange is strategic. Once complete, it will improve the movement of goods and people, reduce travel time, and strengthen our position as a transit hub in the region,” Hon. Mhona said.
The Minister revealed that the Mabvuku Interchange, Mutare Road/Harare Drive Interchange, and the Delport Road Project are all being implemented at the same time.
He said the concurrent rollout reflects Government’s determination to fast-track infrastructure development, decongest Harare roads, and improve efficiency on the national road network.
“These projects are part of a broader infrastructure drive meant to support economic growth, attract investment, and build a modern transport system that meets the needs of our people,” he added.
Minister Mhona was accompanied by Permanent Secretary Eng. J.P. Makumbe, directors from the Ministry, CEOs of parastatals under the Ministry, as well as engineers and technicians from the Department of Roads.
Government says the completion of the interchanges will significantly cut travel time for commuters and haulage trucks, while supporting trade along the Beira corridor.
