President Mnangagwa Commissions New Glovers Power Plant, Urges Investment in National Projects
HARARE — President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially opened the New Glovers Power Plant, declaring that Zimbabwe remains “open for business” while calling for greater local investment in strategic infrastructure to drive Vision 2030.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mnangagwa commended pension funds and financial institutions that participated in the project, but said more must be done by local capital markets.
“More must be done by local capital markets towards the mobilisation of resources for strategic national projects that directly impact Vision 2030, and the industrialisation as well as modernisation of our country,” he said.
The President urged individuals and entities, including Zimbabweans in the diaspora, to diversify investments into key national priority projects, he cautioned against externalizing all earnings: “Kana mawana zvamawana kupinda, mumigodhi, neikoko kunze kwenyika, musadye mari yose. Ngativakei nyika yekwedu, nematunhu edu, kuti nyika ibudirire, remangwana rive raka jeka.”
President Mnangagwa also directed urban and rural local authorities to “ring fence and reserve land for the establishment of energy and technology parks,” reinforcing Government’s push for industrialization.
Reiterating the national development mantra, he said: “Taka bvumirana kuti; Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo / Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhu-le-ke-lwe ngabanikazi balo.”

He further congratulated the young Zimbabweans behind New Glovers Solar who spearheaded construction of the plant, highlighting youth participation in driving the country’s energy agenda.
The New Glovers Power Plant is expected to bolster Zimbabwe’s energy security and support the broader goal of modernizing the economy under Vision 2030.
